What is a Skin Tag?
Skin Tags are small, soft, skin coloured growths that hang off the skin, looking similar to warts. They are very common, harmless and can vary in size ranging from a few millimetres up to about 2 inches wide.
They are most commonly found on the neck, armpits, groin, breasts, eyelids or under the folds of the buttocks. They are made of loose collagen (a type of protein found throughout the body) and blood vessels. Usually they are harmless and don’t cause pain, however you may consider having skin tags removed if they are affecting your self-esteem, or if they catch on clothing/jewellery and bleed.
Skin tags can be treated at one of our minor surgery clinics. The usual process involves a local anaesthetic to numb the area, excision of the skin tags and closure of the wound. This process is relatively quick and in almost all cases, patients are able to go home after completion.
